Using the vague hint above, what do the 9 following 3 letter words have in common?

Wow this is a brain teaser indeed. There's a few things "some" of them, when put together could have in common but all 9? That'll take some major thinking.
Oak can be in scotches in ale at a Pub, a den can be a bear den in nature associated with oak. The sea and day can be related to the outdoor theme of oak. Pit can be an outdoor firepit. Far could be something far away outside. Rap could be something you could do while outside and you can sit while doing it. The best I can come up with is that they can all be associated with/or done outside. I am sure that is far off from the answer but I thought I would try to see if I could at least relate them all. I'll be interested to know the answer.
